Site: Kenduli Village, West Bengal, India

The design of the residential areas is considered as a multi functional unit consisting of mutually interconnected architectural elements that constitute the cultural and social milieu. Although the complex could easily be gated, residents have been encouraged to be involved with the enhancement of their security; the role of designers can be considered as dividing the shared space for the people of each block and encouraging the residents’ “ownership” of their environment and a sense of responsibility for the surrounding area.
